Community Profile
The City of Hamilton, Ohio is situated in Butler County, located in southwestern Ohio. Hamilton’s close proximity to the metropolitan areas of Cincinnati and Dayton place it at the center of expanding markets and a highly skilled work force.

Hamilton, Ohio first appeared on the map in 1791 as Fort Hamilton; a frontier outpost on the east bank of the Great Miami River. The fort was named after Alexander Hamilton, the nation's first Secretary of the Treasury. The area's first settlers were land speculators and Revolutionary War veterans.

When Ohio was admitted as a state in 1803, Hamilton was designated the county seat of the newly-created Butler County. Today, Hamilton is the governmental, financial, industrial, and cultural center of Butler County. With a population of over 61,000, the city offers the cultural amenities and history of a large city in a suburban setting.

Transportation
Hamilton offers direct access via State Route 129 to I-75. Access, via State Route 129, State Route 4 and Bypass State Route 4, to a variety of interstate highways, including I-75, I-71, I-275, and I-74. Air Transport: Located 35 miles south of Hamilton is the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The Dayton International Airport is located 45 miles northeast of Hamilton. The Butler County Regional Airport, located in Hamilton, provides air taxi service to and from the Dayton and Cincinnati airports, and has been designated to accommodate even the most demanding corporate flight departments. Executive and corporate hangers are available for long-term or overnight storage.

Rail Transport: CSX and Norfolk Southern Corp. provide rail service for Hamilton businesses.
 

Communication
The JournalNews, the local newspaper, covers both local and national news with a daily circulation of over 30,000. A Community Calendar is available on the JournalNews web site to keep residents and visitors informed of upcoming area events. In addition, the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Cincinnati Post, and the Dayton Daily News produce Butler County editions. Hamilton receives full television and radio coverage from both Cincinnati and Dayton, as well as Hamilton-based WMOH 1450 AM The Ticket. Cable television is serviced by Time Warner Cable.

Hamilton’s educational focus extends to an integrated Job Development Center located on the high school campus.

Hamilton is also home to a strong parochial school system including Stephen T. Badin High School which is a comprehensive Catholic secondary school that is committed to creating a community that promotes academic growth, faith development, and responsible citizenship for each student.

Continuing education courses for professional or personal enrichment are available through Butler Technology and Career Development Schools and the Miami Hamilton Regional Campus.

Miami University’s Hamilton Campus provides dynamic and cultural resources to the community. Students can earn Associate and Bachelor degrees; pursue initial course work needed for degrees at Miami’s nearby main campus, just 15 minutes away in Oxford, Ohio.
